Meeting Held January 15, 2005

 

 

 

Present: Kathleen Cady, Landra Carty, Laura Conway, Scott Conway, Rob McGuire,                           Chris McGuire, Blythe Stanfel

Absent: Cory Clasen, Sarah Clasen, Jolene Johnson, Judy Miller, Cheryl Stimson,                                   Melinda White

 

 

 

Meeting Called to order at 1:12pm by President, Blythe Stanfel

 

 

 

 

 

 

DISCUSSION:

  1. Money in account:  Current Balance approximately $4760.00.

      -$500.00 of this will go for paying 5031C fee

      -Enough money now to lose bank fee

2.    Website: 

      -Incorporate special thanks and sponsor links

      -Minutes from meetings to be placed on website

3.  Scholarship:

      -Members reviewed information and decision was made to remove all financial

        Information from scholarship criteria.

      - Scholarship application will be placed on website

      - First scholarship of $500 to be offered for the 2005-2006 academic year

4.  Legislation:

 

 

     -January 26, 2005—Blythe will attend a lobbying day with the March of Dimes

      To insure that the $3.00 charge added to newborn screening can not be taken away

  1. Newborn gift pack:

      Already included from first meeting at U of Ia

      -General information

      -National PKU news newsletter and website information

      -Copy of directory

      -PKU video

      -Bib

      -scale

 

 

      -low protein food list

      -low protein cookbook

      -lancets

 

 

 

      The following will be included in the gift pack from the foundation:

      -IPF onesie

      -low protein cookbook

      -list of age appropriate tips

      -list of references

      -list of contacts from IPF board

      Ideas for future gift pack at 8 months of age or so:

      -Low protein food samples:  cookies, pasta, cheese sauce, peanut butter

 

 

 

6.  Newsletter:

      -Landra was given Print shop 2004 to begin the newsletter

      -Newsletters will be distributed in March and October

      -Kathy will do the first tip of the month:  Refrigerator magnets and yes/no book

      -1st profile child will be Brittany Conway

      -Event profile in the 1st newsletter will include 2004 picnic and February 2005

        water park event.

      Kathy—contact food companies for donations

      Rob/Chris—contact Dairy Queen for donation, research available camping area

      and cost.

      Landra—contact Dahl’s for donation

      Sarah—pop donation

  1. Fall event in Dubuque in August or September
  2. Strategic planning update:  Tami and Chris are working on submitting request for

      grant from Iowa Clinics.

  1. Scott—contact Casey’s regarding printing prices for brochure
  2. Kathy will continue to research printing prices for brochure
  3. Laura will contact Wal-Mart corporate offices for donation
  4. Laura will contact Carol Johnson regarding insurance company and Medicare/Medicaid coverage on formula.
  5. Organization for 2005 summer event will be done via email and finalized at the next meeting.

 

 

 

Next Meeting set for May 15, 2005 at 1:00pm at the Conway’s in Polk City.
